Mid November 2023 I had the pleasure of being invited for a keynote presentation at the kick-off of the Applied and Experimental Sound Research Lab (AESR) in Vienna (Austria). In this presentation I combine insights from my book Engaging With Everyday Sounds with my advisory work for (non)governmental organizations on the sound design of public spaces, and some ideas about the extended role artistic research might play in contemporary society.

Thanks a lot for sharing your research about vocal ecotism with us.
Yes, it slightly differs from my work and seems to relate more to the acoustic ecology movement. As for me, ecology is not “restricted” to “nature” but deals in a more general sense with (living) beings and their environment. In that sense, ecology can also be about the (non-)acts of people in urban spaces.
However, I think it is important, urgent, and relevant that we know of all these projects and initiatives taking place all over the world that are concerned with ecological issues.

thank you for your quick answer! Just to say: I see the similarities between your approach and our research exactly at that point of overcoming the ideas of „nature“ and „culture/civilization“ and start to listen and look in a more integrative way to „the world“.
